The People’s Alliance Party has received more than 100 applications from individuals seeking to contest the next general election under its banner, with applications officially closing on July 31 last year.

Party general secretary Sila Balawa confirmed that the pool of applicants includes several former FijiFirst Party members.

Mr Balawa said the party was still in the process of reviewing and assessing all applications received before the closing date.

“We are still working through the applications. We haven’t finished yet,” he said.

He explained that the party was verifying information and requesting further details from some applicants where necessary, before forwarding submissions to the party’s selection committee.

“We are going through them and getting more information from those applicants where required. Once that is done, the committee will review and assess the applications,” Mr Balawa said.

He clarified that the more than 100 applications received represented a wide cross-section of potential candidates and were not limited to former FijiFirst Party members.

“Everybody applied, not only former FijiFirst Party members,” he said.
