"Too many of our people are dying on the roads, in brawls, from domestic violence overseas, and from short illnesses," says Jessica Bale Naevo.

Leaders and citizens have been urged to set aside a day each week for national prayer, as a way to address Fiji's growing social challenges, including road accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses.

The call was made by Jessica Bale Naevo, a Nadi-based The People's Alliance party (PA) member and former candidate in the last General Election.

She said human effort alone could not solve the problems confronting the nation.

"I request that we set aside at least one hour on one day of the week for prayer for our people and our nation," Ms Naevo said.

Ms Naevo highlighted the human cost of Fiji's social issues.

"Too many of our people are dying on the roads, in brawls, from domestic violence overseas, and from short illnesses," she said.

She stressed that spiritual intervention was urgently needed and called on the public and government officials to stand together in prayer.

"We need to unite, pray, and surrender to God," she added.
