PM orders independent probe into Saukuru trip
The investigation will also examine allegations of abuse of funds levelled against Fiji Sports Council CEO.

Prime Minister Stiveni Rabuka has ordered an independent probe investigation into Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru and Sports Council CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has ordered an independent investigation into allegations surrounding Youth and Sports Minister Jese Saukuru’s January 2025 travel to New Zealand.
In a statement yesterday, Mr Rabuka said he met with Mr Saukuru on February 20, 2026, and informed him that a probe would be commissioned into claims the trip was sponsored by the Fiji Sports Council.
The investigation will also examine allegations of abuse of funds levelled against Fiji Sports Council chief executive officer Ratu Gilbert Vakalalabure.

Mr Rabuka said Mr Saukuru had given his assurance that he would not interfere with the investigation in any way.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has authorised Mr Saukuru’s previously scheduled six-day tour of the Yasawa Group, which begins on Sunday, February 22.
