Proposed People’s First party to register by month-end: Seruiratu

Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has reaffirmed the group’s commitment to establishing a new political party, the People’s First Party, with plans to submit their application by the end of August.
People's First is one of the 30 names that have been reserved by the Registrar of Political Parties.
“I wish to assure Fijians that we are still committed to the announcement we made in January this year that we intend a political party,” Mr Seruiratu said.

He emphasised the party’s dedication to representing the people and continuing the work established by the previous administration.
“Let me assure all Fijians that we are here for you and we are here to represent you. We are here to continue the good work that had established through the previous administration,” he said.
Seruiratu provided an update on the party’s progress, noting delays in securing the proposed party name from the Supervisor of Elections and the registrar of political parties.
“It took a while for us to take the proposed name from the Supervisor of Elections and the registrar of political parties. It took us a few months after the January announcement,” he explained.
He also shared that the signature collection process is nearing completion and expressed gratitude for public support.
“We are in the final phase of the signature collection, it is going on very well and we are grateful and excited by all the support. Your support is needed to taking this forward,” Mr Seruiratu said.
The Opposition Leader concluded by confirming their intention to make the formal submission by the end of August.
“We are looking forward to make our submissions by the end of this month, the month of August.”
