Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has defended the decision to reappoint Lynda Tabuya to Cabinet, saying everyone deserves a second chance.

At the Town hall meeting in Ba last night, Mr Rabuka was questioned by the audience about the message the government was sending to young people by reinstating a minister previously disciplined for misconduct.

“She was disciplined with regards to an issue of misconduct — she was dismissed from her role as a minister,” a member of the audience said.
“My concern is this: what message are we sending to young people when we have such conduct from people in leadership in our country?”

In response, Mr Rabuka offered a brief but pointed reply that silenced the crowd.

“Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s comment was seen as a clear justification for Ms Tabuya’s return to Cabinet, framing it as an act of forgiveness and belief in personal redemption.
