Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader Aseri Radrodro says the growing enthusiasm among young party members is a clear sign of resurgence as the party gears up for the next general election.

Speaking at SODELPA’s Youth General Meeting today, Mr Radrodro described the event as a milestone, noting the strong turnout of youth from various provinces and constituencies.

“Today is a very special day for the Social Democratic Liberal Party,” he said. “The gathering shows that we still have the support, especially from our youth wing. The huge turnout today indicates that the support is still there, it is growing, and we look forward to building on it as we prepare for the next election.”

Mr Radrodro said the strong attendance was not only a sign of SODELPA’s enduring relevance but also proof of its longevity in Fiji’s political landscape.

“SODELPA has always been a strong party. The people still believe in us, and today’s turnout demonstrates that,” he added. “We’ve been around for more than 20 years, and the presence of so many young people today reflects both a resurgence and the sustained strength of the party.”

He also addressed concerns that youth involvement in politics often fades after elections, assuring that SODELPA is committed to keeping young voices active in its decision-making processes.

“This is a first step,” he explained. “The youth wing has appointed officials to ensure they are part of our management board and strategic decision-making. We want to involve them in everything we do.”

He highlighted government initiatives championed by SODELPA aimed at empowering youth, including vocational education and training programs, employment pathways, and reviews of the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).

“We are listening to them and ensuring that our policies address the intentions and desires of the youth,” he said.
