Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu says the successful registration of the People First party has brought relief to its members and cleared the way for the party to focus on its vision and values.
Seruiratu, who was involved in early discussions on forming the party, said official registration marked an important milestone for members and supporters.
People First was formally registered yesterday as Fiji’s newest political party, a move confirmed by Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa.

Mataiciwa said the party’s application, submitted on November 20, 2025, was approved after due assessment.
She confirmed that four objections were lodged against the registration. These related to the party’s name, symbol and the contents of its constitution. All four objections were dismissed after assessment.
The objectors have 14 days from the date of the decision to lodge an appeal with the Electoral Commission.
With the registration of People First, there are now eight political parties registered with the Fijian Elections Office.
Seruiratu thanked those involved in the registration process, particularly party president Joanna Uka Koroilavesau and her team.
He said the party would now focus on upholding its constitution and advancing its values and direction.
People First is led by Koroilavesau as president, with Raktnesh Kumar as vice-president, Ema Dimila as secretary and Lina Racuvu as treasurer.
The registration adds another party to Fiji’s political landscape ahead of the next general election, giving voters an additional choice.
