The proposed People First political party for the 2026 General Election has collected the required 5,000 signatures.
Led by Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu, he said this didn’t mean they would stop the signature drive.
After concluding a vetting process of signatures last month, he said members decided to go out again and collect more just to ensure they were in a better position to form a party.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported us and I assure them that we will try out utmost best to do everything in our capacity to represent them,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“Once we are in a better position and satisfied with the collection then we will submit to the Registrar of Political Parties.”
Mr Seruiratu concluded a one-week tour to the Northern Division visiting different villages, settlements, projects, government departments and people, especially in Cakaudrove Province.
“I had spent most of my time on Taveuni Island because I received lot of concerns from the people,” he said.
“Some places are still without electricity, water, roads and the sad part is to know there is no pharmacy on the island to provide service after hospital pharmacy closes.”
He revealed that people also requested better connectivity as mobile network was a major issue on the island.
“I have been informed by some people that they have been waiting for their community development projects approval from the Government,” he said.
“Since connectivity is an ongoing issue, they said whenever they see government officials visiting their island, they find it easier to talk to them on the face.”
