The Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, commended the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) for ensuring stability and democracy in Fiji since the 2022 General Election.
He made the remark during the National Federation Party (NFP) 62nd National Convention and Annual General Meeting held in Labasa last Saturday.
Mr Tikoduadua won a seat in Parliament and joined the Coalition Government under the NFP banner. He said after the 2022 election, there were a lot of tensions on the continuation of the democratic process.
“I acknowledge the RFMF for ensuring that an elected Government is given a chance to lead the people,” he said.
He said the neutrality and fairness of the RFMF was important in the governance of Fiji. Mr Tikoduadua is confident that future governments will be supported by the RFMF in maintaining peace and safety.
He was a former FijiFirst party member before he deflected to the NFP. Mr Tikoduadua confirmed that he would contest the next election under the NFP banner.
Meanwhile, party leader and Acting Prime Minister, Biman Prasad shared the disturbing scene where Mr Tikoduadua was physically threatened outside Parliament by former Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.
Mr Prasad said the NFP valued the rights of each citizen and restored media freedom to report and criticised Government on certain issues.
