The Church College of Fiji is looking forward to creating upsets at this year’s zone and Fiji finals.

More than 300 students took part in yesterday’s inter-house at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

HOD (head of department) PEMAC Florinda Dakuiyau said the preparation had been good so far.

“We started in the first week of school, and so we’re pretty excited for the amount of preparation that we’ve done and looking forward for the Fiji finals, especially our zone meets,” Dakuiyau said.

She said they would opt for the under-dog tag to create surprises, both in the zone and also at the Coke Games.

Dakuiyau encouraged fans and ex-scholars to be out in numbers and support their athletes.

“We invite our Church College Fiji families to come in and support our athletes’ throw, jump, whatever event they’re going to participate in.”

She added that their elite squad has been progressive in their training.

“A couple of them have been training with clubs outside of school. This is during the school holidays, so they’ve been training well.

“We also have an elite squad training in school.

Keo said the athletes have been doing their own training with specialised coaches.

“That’s a handful. These are students who participated in zone and cokes last year. We’ve kept the bulk of them.

“We have promising athletes.”
