The Nadi- based Delta Coy team once again retained the Bougainville Tanoa after beating Land Force Command (LFC) 16-6 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on Thursday.

This was Delta Coy’s sixth consecutive title defence and the third for this season.

What happened: Delta Coy took the lead with a penalty to Maleli Ramoka for a 3-0 lead.

Halftime: The hosts had the services of former national 7s rep Iliavi Satala along with Jiuta Takubu and wily halfback Nemani Koroitamana.

They piled on the pressure and scored a try to flanker Lepani Qaranivalu as they extended their lead to 8-0.

LFC had the services of Fiji Airways Fijian Drua No.8 Peni Raidre, Asaeli Niudamu, and Savenaca Tikoitoga.

Delta Coy was penalised on two occasions and LFC halfback turned fullback Onisimo Dakainikuro converted to narrow the deficit 8-6.

With 15 minutes remaining Satala added another penalty to make it 11-6.

In the dying stages of the match, second five eight Vilive Aria dived over to seal the match at 16-6.

Comments: Delta Coy manager Jone Manu said: “This is our third win and sixth defence. All teams have prepared well and we have to be a step ahead in order to win.

“We will face Navy next week and we’re hoping to continue on with this momentum.”

LFC skipper Peni Raidre said, “We came back late into the match. Nadi started with a bang and had the momentum for almost the whole 80 minutes of play.”
