Lawn Bowls Trio Fall Short At Bronze Playoff

Lawn bowls men’s triples missed out on the bronze medal at the Bir­mingham Commonwealth Games on Monday at Victoria Park, Leaming­ton Spa after bowling out to Wales 7-21 in the bronze play-off.

Lawn bowls men’s triples missed out on the bronze medal at the Bir­mingham Commonwealth Games on Monday at Victoria Park, Leaming­ton Spa after bowling out to Wales 7-21 in the bronze play-off.

The Fijian line-up of David Aitcheson, Martin Fong and Semesa Naiseruvati had lost to Australia in the semi-final 13-26.

Ladies’ foursome Loreta Kotoisuva, She­nal Mar, Radhika Prasad Losalini Tukai lost to South Africa 6-14.

Meanwhile it was almost a comeback for the ages, a story fitting for the pool room - but alas, Australia have fallen short in the men’s lawn bowls triple final.

England overcame the Australian trio of Barry Lester, Carl Healy and Ben Twist 14-12 to claim the gold medal, but only after Australia came from 12-1 down to almost pull off a win against the odds.

SWIMMING

Herbert Rabua of the three swimmers that took part in the men’s 50 metres breaststroke clocked the best time stop­ping the stopwatch at 29.60 seconds at the Sandwell Aquatic Centre on Monday.

David Young in Heat 1 clocked 30.76 seconds while Taichi Vakasama did not start.

Of the 40 swimmers that swam in the event Rabua came home 28th while Young was 32nd.

In the men’s 100m butterfly Temafa Yalimaiwai clocked 57.90sec. He finished 37th out of the 47 swimmers (men) that took part in the event.

All three women swimmers swam on Monday with sisters Rosemarie and Cheyenne Rova taking part in the 100m freestyle.

Rosemarie stopped the stopwatch at 1:00:78 minutes while Cheyenne clocked 1:01:81 minutes.

Rosemarie finished 36th while Chey­enne came home 44th out of the 55 wom­en swimmers in the event.

Kelera Mudunasoko clocked 1:16:23 minutes in the women’s 100m breast­stroke. Of the 28 swimmers in the event Mudunasoko finished 22nd.

BOXING

Jone Davule boxed against a boxer from Namibia and lost at The NEC, Hall 9.

The referee stopped the bout.

SQUASH

Marika Matanatabu lost to Barbados 0-3 at the University of Birmingham.

On the medal tally Fiji now has two sil­ver medals from the women and men’s sevens achievements on Sunday.

Fijiana had lost 12-22 to Australia in the final while Fiji lost 7-31 to South Africa in the men’s final.
