Parents, Families’ Support Boost Lautoka Zone Teams

Yasawa High School have been commended for their participation in the Lautoka Zone Fiji Secondary Schools rugby union competition.

They have fielded in teams for both the Vodafone Deans and Weet- Bix Raluve competition which is the rugby comp for secondary school girls.

This Saturday YHS Under-18 girls will take on Jasper Williams High School in the match before the cur­tain raiser match for Macuata and Yasawa senior men’s team Baini­marama challenge shield at Lau­toka’s Churchill Park.

The curtain raiser match is be­tween Ratu Navula College Un­der-18 and Natabua High School.

Lautoka Zone games coordina­tor Timoci Duve said they were privileged to host the launch of the Western Zone launch last week.

“We had a good turnout last week, it was a great start,” Duve said.

“There has been a lot of support from parents, family and friends,” he said.

“We have teams who travelled from as far from Yasawa; they have an Under 16 boys’ team and also a team in the Raluve competition.

“This shows the interest in wom­en’s rugby, we’re surprised with some schools like St Thomas High School; they do not have a team for Deans but have two teams for the girls’ competition.”

Schools who have teams in the both (boys and girls) competitions include Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute, Drasa Secondary School, Lautoka Muslim College and Tilak High School.

The Lautoka Zone games this week will take place at Nadovu Park, Lautoka.
