The National Hockey Centre was a hive of activity as the 2019 Ovaltine Suva Business House Futsal Soccer League got underway with 16 teams participating in the first round.

Tournament organiser Alan Kumar of Bula Events Group said the eight opening matches created a lot of excitement and he is happy with the good start.

“With 32 teams participating this year, the competition level has really gone up and we witnessed some great futsal skills last night,” Kumar said.

“A lot of goals were scored in the first rounds and a lot of yellows cards and two red cards were also issued.”

A LEVEL UP

He said the competition has gone to another level compared to last year.

“There were a lot of upsets as well. The defending champions Fiji Sun were defeated by Gokals with three goals to nil while the runners-up from last year– Intergroup also lost their first match against HFC,” Kumar added.

“Once again I wish to thank Motibhai Group for teaming up with us as the major sponsors for this year and the overall support from the business community of Suva has been overwhelming.”

Meanwhile the management and players of Evergreen International are on cloud nine following a great start in the opening rounds after winning by 5-2 against Action Fiji.

GREAT START

Team director Mike Jamieson said it has been a great start and he hopes the team continues to keep the winning trend intact.

“Let’s hope the boys continue to keep our company name in the winner’s circle,” Jamieson said from the tourism capital - Nadi.
