Nadi homeboy and Fiji lightweight champion boxer Ronald Naidu will swap his boxing gloves for his boots to boost debutants Navakai at the TIV Sangam Championship at King Charles Park this weekend.

The Nadi-based side is among a handful of teams making their debut in the 100-year tournament, which also marks the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam centennial celebrations.

The team’s major sponsor is Style Tack Fiji Pte Limited.

Company director Satya Nadan, one of the co-founders with Muniaappa Pillay, is part of the group behind the initiative.

“To form a team after 100 years is a milestone. There are nine branches in the Nadi district, and we are the latest addition,” Nadan said.

“There are 263 registered members in the Nadi area. We have formed the team now and want it to last the next 100 years.

“Discipline and respect are important, and we have strong support from our officials.”

Nadi Sports and Social Club president Ravitesh Singh said the team’s formation would help uncover local talent.

“This is an important step. There is an abundant of talents here,” Singh said.

“Play with heart, pride and enjoy the competition — that is the objective.”
