Aisea Naicovu (centre) remain suspended for the rest of the year.
The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) will stop Aisea Naicovu from fighting on the King’s Boxing Promotion card if his name appears on the final programme.
BCF chairman Adi Narayan told SUNsports yesterday that Naicovu remained suspended for the rest of the year following his controversial bout against Fredrick Chand at the Blue Water Boxing Promotion in Sigatoka in May.
Naicovu struck Chand while he was still on the canvas, leaving Chand requiring medical treatment before being taken to hospital. Referee Mun Sami later ruled the contest a no contest.
Despite reports that Naicovu had been matched against Aditya Singh in a light heavyweight contest on the King’s Boxing Promotion card, Narayan said the bout would not be sanctioned.
“If his name appears on the King’s Boxing programme, he will not be allowed to fight,” Narayan said.
“I have not yet received the final programme for sanctioning, but if his name is there, I will instruct the promoter to remove it and replace him with another boxer.
“If a replacement cannot be found, that bout will be removed from the programme.”
Narayan said the commission would review the final fight card before granting approval.
Meanwhile, King’s Boxing promoter Nahroon Buksh said he would comply with any directive issued by the Boxing Commission.
“If the Boxing Commission does not allow him to fight, we will replace him,” Buksh said.
“I have sent the programme to the chairman and there were no objections at the time, but I will liaise with him regarding this issue.”
