The Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa College (Khalsa College) Under- 19 boys side has stepped their mark as ‘giant killers’ in the Extra Fiji Secondary Schools Football Association (FSSFA) Championship.

The Labasa-based school drew with defending champions Vunimono High School (VHS) 0-0, thrashed Nadi’s Ratu Navula College (RNC) 3-0 and defeated Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School (MGM) 3-1 at Subrail Park yesterday.

Khalsa College head coach Riaz Khan said the win has propelled them to the quarterfinal with eyes set on winning the U19 title.

Khan felt overwhelmed with the results and believed they have the confidence to push for the main title this year.

The wily coach indicated that Khalsa College has never won the national Under-19 title however, they still have a lot to do before the knockout phase begins.

He said their weakness is discipline as they copped several yellow cards and a red card.

“We have to be cautious with our discipline to avoid having players sent off,” he said.

Khan reiterated that they want to win the title this year because they prepared well compared to previous years.

He described MGM as a strong contender after they struggled against them.

“We had a shaky first-half, then we came up with a game plan, which worked out well”.
