Fiji’s most accomplished professional golfer, Roneel Prakash, has set the tone for the 2026 season after winning the Dinesh Chand Invitational Pro-Am at the Denarau Golf Course yesterday.
The former Lautoka school teacher finished with a one-under-par 72, winning on countback to edge out Zoheer ‘Aviator’ Ahmed in the professional category.
“It is great to start the year with a bang as far as my professional career is concerned,” Prakash said.

He recalled winning his first amateur title at the same Dinesh Chand-sponsored event in 2003, highlighting how far he has come in the sport.
“This is very sentimental for me — to win my first amateur title here and now to win a professional title,” he said.
Ba schoolteacher Asish Chand shot 77 to claim the overall gross title, while veteran Raghu Chaudhry won the overall nett.
Tournament sponsor Dinesh Chand said it was encouraging to see a strong field compete in the one-day event.
“I had knee surgery in November and should be fully recovered to play in May,” Chand said.
“I am exempted from the tour and once I return, I hope to earn more funds to continue hosting successful tournaments like this.”
He also thanked sponsors Fiji Airways, Vuksich & Borich, Punjas and Sheraton Fiji.
