Cumu boosts Navy women’s side

Fijiana 7s representative Lavenia Cumu returns to strengthen Navy as the women’s competition begins at the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s in Nadi.

Fijiana 7s rep Lavenia Cumu will boost Navy’s chances in the women’s ompetition at the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s which kicks off today.

Cumu was part of the na-tional Fijiana 7s squad.

Team captain Lavenia Tinai said the side was pleased to have her back.

“We are glad she is back with us,” Tinai said.

However, the Navy will miss the services of Veniana Riwai, who is injured and Ivamerea Nabura, who has joined the Fijiana 15s camp.

Tinai said women’s rugby had improved significantly during the current series.

“All the teams want to win their pool games and reach the finals. The competition has been tough during this series. Watching these women’s games, there has been so much improvement, especially from the local teams,” she said.

Navy is in Pool Three with Fiji National University (FNU), Vaturu Green, and Tagimoucia Ranadi.

Meanwhile, Loloma Heights from Savusavu will make its debut at the Nawaka 7s.

The club was formed this year by Peni Ratuvuki and Makereta Rosi.

Team captain Sereana Liku said the side had previously played in tournaments in Vanua Levu.

“We started playing in tournaments in Vanua Levu and this will be our first time at the Nawaka 7s,” Liku said.

Loloma Heights is in Pool One with Lilian Amazon 2, Sinukakala, and Nawaka.
