The Etuate Qalibau captained Jack Devo Babas side is confident of reaching the final of the 39th Fiji Bit-ter Nawaka Sevens which kicks off at King Charles Park in Nadi today.
Qalibau is the lone survivor from the defending champion team that beat Lavidi Brothers, 20–0, in last year’s final.
The side features utility Mesake Nasalo, winger Ryan Cagi-laba and hooker Iliesa Lulu who displayed impressive skills and agility at the Coral Coast Sevens in Sigatoka.
“We have a new team. It is a mammoth task, but we have faith,” Qalibau said.
The Devo Babas side has produced players who have gone on to represent the national team or play professionally in China, Japan, France, and Georgia.
Devo Babas is in Pool One alongside Newtown Brothers, Bukuya Cowboys, and Dominion Brothers.
The Akasio Saiyasi-captained Senivi Rugby side from Bemana, Nadroga will make its debut in the tournament men’s and Under-21 categories.
They are in Pool Three with SR Amica, Saunaka, and AJ Pallets Ba River.
Suva Rugby winger Inia Tawa-lo will lead the 2024 champions Army side.
Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry committee executive Akesa Lovodua said the tournament is another boost for the township.
The competition gets underway at 8am.
