Faith, unity and teamwork power RKS Under-16s to Eastern Zone crown

The Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) Under-16 head coach Philip Halofaki said faith, unity and teamwork helped them beat Queen Victoria School in the Eastern Zone final at Suva’s National Stadium, last Saturday.

Halofaki told SUNsports, the team’s performance was inspired by the Bible verse Galatians 5:22, which focused on the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

“It was not about strength or power, but through the Holy Spirit,” he said.

“Our message to the boys was to find peace in everything they do, whether on the field, in the classroom or wherever they are. We reminded them to trust in the Holy Spirit.”

He praised the impact of his replacements, saying they lifted the intensity and helped secure the victory.

At half-time, Halofaki urged his players to continue working hard and play for one another.

“Through unity and hard work, we can achieve success.”

Despite reaching the national quarterfinals, Halofaki said RKS would approach the knockout stage with humility.

“We will go into the national quarterfinals as underdogs. Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School are the benchmark in this grade and we respect them.”

He said the team still have areas to improve before the next round.

“We are not there yet. We need to continue improving our performance and working hard.”

Halofaki also acknowledged the support of parents, teachers and the RKS Old Boys Association.

He also thanked the RKS Old Boys, particularly the 2010 and Beyond group, for providing equipment and resources to assist the team’s preparations
