The Fiji Airways Fiji men's 7s team has started their training for the Vancouver 7s tournament which will be from March 7-8.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau said yesterday the team spent the first session reviewing their performance from the Perth 7s.

Just looking at our games in Perth, I think we still need to get better at our defence, he said.

We improved a bit, but there was still a lot of work to do, especially on the edges.

Kolinisau said the team created chances but allowed easy tries to be scored against them.

We scored a lot on our edges. We had men there, but our processes were wrong, he said.

Kolinisau said, the communication between the end man and the inside player wasn't right.

“We also missed too many tackles. We want to clean that up to make our one-on-one defence solid.

He confirmed that opportunities remained open for new players.

“One player, Tomasi Stark, played well at the Coral Coast 7s. We wanted to see how he performed against the squad because most players who went

to Singapore and Perth did not play there.”

Kolinisau said players must show their point of difference when they join camp. He also hinted at possible changes to the squad.

“If you’re not competing, you’re wasting our time,” he said.

The wily coach said Sakiusa Siqila and other players may not be here, but it doesn’t mean they’re out. They just need to work harder.

Lanky forward Joseva Talacolo is still recovering from a concussion while winger Vuiviawa Naduvalo needs a few more days of recovery before returning to the squad.
