The Fiji men’s rugby sevens team is aiming for a strong finish at this weekend’s HSBC SVNS World Championship in Valladolid, Spain.
Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens coach Osea Kolinisau confirmed the side remained focused on ending the season on a high note.
“We’re still in the fight and this is something that we are aiming for,” he told SUNsports.

“We want to perform well this weekend after falling short in Hong Kong. We are trying our best to finish strong in Valladolid.”
Kolinisau said the team was motivated to improve after several disappointing finishes this season, including exits in the semifinals and pool stages.
“We need to bounce back from those poor performances,” he said.
He said Fiji needed to reduce errors, particularly in defence.
“This weekend we need to work on our defence, our tackle height and also getting our tackles right. Especially, we need to reduce our missed tackles,” Kolinisau said.
He also stressed the importance of making good decisions at the rucks and maintaining communication on the field.
Kolinisau said Fiji was expecting tough contests against France and hosts Spain.
“This week we need to focus on France. They are a very good side and will bring their A-game as well,” he said.
“We also cannot rule out Spain. They will give us a tough battle on their home ground because they will want to win in front of their supporters.”
Kolinisau said the team would not underestimate any opponent and would take each match one at a time.
He confirmed Isaia Rugu would make his debut this weekend, while Terio Tamani would captain the side.
“Rugu plays for Malolo Rugby, while Tamani will captain the team for this tournament,” he said.
Kolinisau said he was looking forward to seeing Rugu showcase his talent.
Fiji is pooled with France, the United States and Spain.
