Tailevu Rugby Union will take each game at a time as they hope for a better finish in this year’s Skipper Cup competition.

Tailevu lost to Naitasiri, 26-31, is last year’s semifinal and loose forward Eparama Sailo said they are hoping for another great outing.

“I think the ultimate goal is to win the Skipper Cup competition but we’ve been told to focus on the little things, game by game,” the Tavea, Lekutu, Bua, native said.

We’ll see how round one goes and then we’ll build slowly towards the ultimate goal.”

The Skipper and Marama Cup competition will kick-off on August 1.

While they may not have the same squad last year, Sailo said it is part of rugby.

“We’ve been trying to focus on building our team, bringing in some young boys just to fill in the gaps for those who have left last year. We’ll go on from there and see how we go.

“I’m confident with the squad we have.”

Sailo played along his younger brother, Isaac Sailo last year.

“That’s a goal in itself, it’s always dream to play with your sibling or a relative. Last year, playing alongside him was just another encouragement to do better every game,” he said.

“Unfortunately, this year he is injured, so I won’t get the same opportunity. So speedy recovery to him and see how he goes.”

Asked on his personal goals this year, Sailo said: “I want to build myself as a player and as an individual. And hopefully, hopefully do good and secure an overseas contract.”

Besides rugby, Sailo takes care of his parents; his other siblings are overseas while his youngest sister is a student at Adi Cakobau School.
