FRU hunts assistant coaches for 7s teams
FRU has advertised assistant coaching roles for the men’s and women’s sevens teams as part of its Olympic build-up

The Fiji Rugby Union is on the hunt for assistant coaches for both the men’s and women’s sevens teams.
The two posts were among seven roles advertised on Thursday which includes the Fijiana XV and Fijian Drua women’s head coach role, national Under-20 head coach and the women’s high performance manager.
The role of the assistant coach for the national 7s team is to support the Fiji men’s 7s team and will be working closely with national head coach Osea Kolinisau in its mission to win Gold at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Fijiana assistant coach would need to work with Richard Walker for a winning game model that elevates the Fijiana 7s to consistently achieve top four finish at World 7s Series tournaments and championships and ultimately winning a medal at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Both assistant coaches are expected to help in assisting on-field coaching and game performance, analysis, insight and game Intelligence, programme and season planning, cultural leadership and player care.
Mandatory qualifications include a World Rugby 7s Level 2 coaching qualification (current and/or refreshed) and proven coaching experience in elite 7s environments at national, professional club, or international level (e.g., HSBC World Series, national programmes, academy or High-Performance pathways).
Other desired qualifications for applicants are:
- World Rugby Level 3 or equivalent high-performance coaching accreditation (or working towards),
- accredited World Rugby coach educator and/or S&C Coach educator, World Rugby Level 3 15s (or working towards)
- Recognized analysis qualification or competency in HUDL, Sports-Code or related platforms
- Tertiary qualification in Coaching, Teaching, Education, High Performance – highly valued
- Experience coaching international 7s tournaments, professional 7s leagues or elite development pathways
Applicants must have a deep understanding of international 7s game trends, innovation drivers and evolving tactical demands and strong technical skill coaching capability.
Other key competencies and attributes include demonstrated ability in video analysis, opposition scouting and converting insights into player learning and collaborative contributor with the ability to challenge and support the Head Coach to raise standards.
