Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer Koli Sewabu led a senior management delegation on a courtesy visit to Fiji Navy Commander Captain (Navy) Timoci Natuva at the Vuvale Maritime Essential Services Centre in Lami on Monday.

This is to reaffirm the long standing partnership between the two organisations.

Sewabu acknowledged the Navy’s significant contribution to the sport over the years, particularly in releasing naval personnel for national rugby duties.

“The Navy has been an important supporter of Fiji Rugby, and we are grateful for their continued commitment to our national teams,” the former Flying Fijians No.8 said.

Both leaders reflected on the deep historical connection between Fiji Rugby and the Navy, highlighting notable rugby figures like Olympian Meli Derenalagi and Alfreda Fisher, players who rose to prominence after coming through Navy ranks.

For the past decades, the Navy has produced top rugby players like former Flying Fijians captain, Esala Teleni, Epi Kolinivala,Tom Mitchell, Sakeasi Vonolagi, Inoke Male, Niko Baleiverata, Alefoso Yalayalatabua, Manasa Saulo, Vesi Rarawa, Nikola Matawalu , Emosi Mulevoro, Apisai Sailada and the list goes on.

Discussions were centered on strengthening collaboration, sharing resources for sports development, and creating pathways that support Navy personnel whether they are on the rugby field or serving in uniform.

Natuva echoed the importance of continued cooperation, noting that shared values between rugby and the Navy discipline, teamwork, and service make the partnership a natural fit.

The visit forms a key part of Fiji Rugby’s broader strategy to enhance engagement with its stakeholders and build a more connected rugby ecosystem.

Over the coming weeks, the FRU will continue its courtesy and official visits across partner organisations as it works to re-inforce relationships throughout
