Former USA sevens winger Perry Baker relished on his first time in Fiji as a unique and humbling experience.

This is after Baker and his Mike Friday select’s 7s teammates were treated to a Sigatoka safari ride and visited a few villages earlier this week.

“It’s unbelievable from the beginning to the end. To welcome us in and just treat us like we’re one of them is just unbelievable and humbling,” Baker said.

“I just wish half the world could see how they operate here in the village with just the love and kindness with the willingness to welcome people with open arms which touched me deeply.”

Teammate and retired Ireland sevens player Jordan Conroy shared the same sentiment as his American teammate.

“I genuinely have to agree, the minute we stepped off the boat. It was nothing but kindness and joy,” he said.

“With this experience, we’ll take it home with us. Alot of people could learn a lot from them.”

Conroy said the team has set their sights on winning the McDonalds Fiji Coral Coast Fiji 7s tournament to repay the kindness of the Fijian people.

“We got something to play for now,” he said.

The McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s team is in Pool C alongside USA 7s, Dominion Brothers and Chenai Bulls Select.
