The Suva Grammar School Under-16 rugby team had to rise to another level to defend their Vodafone Deans title.
This was the gist of head coach Iosefo Naduva’s interview with SUNsports after a dominant 40-12 win over Queen Victoria School.
“We were third from our zone, but we were determined that we could make it, so hats off to the boys for the effort shown on the field,” he said.
“We didn’t get any new boys this year, but with the same group of boys, we were able to lift to another level, and that’s what the boys showed in the final.”
Naduva dedicated the win to their families and ex-scholars as well.
“Humility was our main approach in the final,” he said.
“I told the boys to be humble, and everything will be taken care of.”
He added that they did not change anything in their preparation and training from last year.
“I think coming into the competition, we are the only team with 35 players, and I think the rest of the teams have 40 players,” he said.
“I’m so thankful that our final 35 got the job done for us.”
