Maroons to maintain winning game momentum against Tailevu

The General Machinery Lautoka Maroons’ win against First Tribe Malolo will set the tone of their preparations against Tailevu this week. 

Coach Peni Drova’s secured a close win, 12-10 in an epic battle at the Churchill Park ground 2, Lautoka last Saturday in their Skipper Cup round 7 clash.

The home side led 12-3 at the breather.

Drova said the preparation was precise and they expected to execute well.

“As we all know, Malolo had some great wins so far, so we need to prepare well and the boys did it,” he said.

Maroons team manager Avimeleki Iosefo thanked Malolo for a tough match. 

“They gave us a good and tough game which resulted in the close points on the scoreboard.

“We are preparing for Tailevu next. We will continue the momentum from this match,” Iosefo said. 

He acknowledged the sponsors and fans for their support since round one of the competition.

Under-20 clash 

In the Under 20 grade, Malolo recorded its first victory of the season over Lautoka, 27-24, at the same venue.

Malolo led 20-12 at the breather.

Captain Sikeli Ukauka said: “We had our acts together to make it a win, the boys had faith as we have been losing in all the last six rounds.”

The Qarani, Gau, Lomaiviti, lad who shares maternal links to Yaqeta, Yasawa thanked the management, players, and the fans for their continuous support. 

“Our next game is against Macuata, so we will organise ourselves well.”
