The Fresh’et Navy women’s side, captained by Lavenia Tinai, is the team to beat in the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament at King Charles Park in Nadi.
On Day One, the side— which in-cludes Fijiana XVs centre Merewai Cumu — proved its strength with a 12–5 win over Tagimoucia Ranadi in their opening pool match yesterday.
In another match, debutants Lolo-ma Heights from Savusavu defeated hosts Nawaka 12–0. Loloma Heights women’s team manager Miliakere Manoa said the team was made up of girls from vil-lages around Savusavu.
“The team was formed by Pastor Peni Ratuvuki, who had vision of helping these young girls stay away from drugs, which is a mammoth challenge currently faced in the country,” she said.
“The aim is for them to achieve higher standards in life and become role models to their peers.”
The competition continues today.
