Swire Shipping Fijian Drua winger Taniela Rakuro’s return offsets a mounting injury toll in the Drua back three ahead of a key Chiefs clash.

Head coach Glen Jackson spoke highly of Rakuro, who is dubbed “the Motorbike” for his agility.

Rakuro pairs up with Manasa Mataele for Sunday’s Super Round clash Chiefs at One NZ Stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand.

“He is back, so we’re looking forward to seeing him,” Jackson said.

“He’s fully recovered from a slight knee issue that kept him out. He’s energised and excited because he’s played a lot this year.”

Jackson said injuries had tested his back three.

“Epeli Momo had surgery last week, so he’s out for the season,” he said.

“It’s been tough with our back three. We’ve had a couple of injuries. Sikeli Rabitu is also out after a yellow card incident and a compulsory 12-day concussion stand-down. Thankfully, he is okay.”

Halfback Simione Kuruvoli filled in on the wing last week.

“Simi did a great job on the wing. I asked if he wanted to play there again, but he turned it down,” Jackson said.

“A good rugby player can play anywhere.”

Jackson added it was a setback to lose half back Frank Lomani and winger Isikeli Basiyalo in the opening minute of their last match.
