Rewa Rugby’s next target is to secure its place in the Skipper Cup competition and avoid relegation.
Rewa Rugby Union secretary Petero Kaveni shared the team’s goal in an interview with SUNsports.
Rewa qualified for the Skipper Cup after edging Northland 9-8 in the Vanua Championship elimination final at Dawasamu, Tailevu North, last Saturday.
“We are grateful to God for this achievement, and we would like to thank our sponsors, FMF Foods Limited, for their continued support from the grassroots level to the senior team,” Kaveni said.
“Ninety per cent of our players were selected from our club competition.”
Rewa returns to Fiji’s top-tier domestic rugby competition after five years.
“Our players are recovering and will begin preparations next week,” Kaveni said.
“Most of the other teams have renowned players, while we have players who have progressed straight from club rugby to the provincial level.”
Kaveni said it has been a challenge for them to get players into camp and transport them to matches over the past year.
“The sponsorship from FMF was of great help to the team, and we also thank K.R. Chand, our transport provider,” he said.
“With the increase in fuel prices, the cost of bus transportation to matches has also risen.”
The Rewa side is eager to represent their province against the country’s top teams in the Skipper Cup.
“We truly appreciate the support shown by our fans in the final last week, and we urge them to continue supporting us,” Kaveni said.
“I also want to thank the coaches and management for their effort and commitment in guiding this team back to the Skipper Cup competition.”
