Swire Shipping Fijian Drua attack coach Tim Sampson has made changes to their attacking game after reviewing the club’s performance at last year’s Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific performance.

“We reviewed quite heavily because we were pretty disappoint-ed with our season and that’s no surprise,” the former Western Force head coach said.

“Missing out on the finals is not ideal for us. We reviewed heavily; we touched on it with the squad. This was based on our findings as staff, as coaches as we turned over too much ball and that’s some-thing that we’ve highlighted.”

The Drua finished 10th and failed to make the play-offs.

“We worked hard on that now seven weeks prior to Christmas but the big focus for us is retaining possession for longer periods.”

Sampson highlighted that there are areas that the team needs to be focused on

“The other probably area where we need to be better or definitely improve on is in our attacking 22. We gained a lot of entries into the opposition’s 22 but we didn’t finish off and get the completion,” he said.

“So, that’s around being patient within that area of the field but that doesn’t mean slowing the game down.

“We’re very good at playing fast physical rugby so we can’t take a brother pedal in that area of the field which I thought we fell a bit into a trap of last year.

“It’s just slowing down the tempo of our attack in that area, but we’ve got to be ruthless there,” he added.
