Faith and determination were the winning formula for the Sinukakala’s team after they dethroned defending champions Navy 19-12 in the women’s final of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament at Suva’s National Stadium on Saturday.
Team captain Eseta Vunitabua acknowledged divine intervention in their win.
“We are happy that we defeated the Navy team as they are strong with a lot of Fijiana players,” she said.
“This win is for our family and friends.”
Vunitabua also dedicated their win to their Sinukakala team-mates who featured for the Vodafone Fijiana team against the Wallaroos in Australia.
“I told the players not to lose hope and work together during the fi nal,” she said.
“I didn’t expect to be named the best player and I’m grateful to God for this award.”
Vunitabua added that the team would try to lift their performance level as they move on.
“I will be happy if I get the call-up to the Fijiana 7s team,” she added.
