The SportsWorld Fiji Under-20 side is focused on improving its discipline ahead of tonight's crucial World Rugby U20 Championship pool match against Australia at the AIA Arena in Kutaisi, Georgia.

Head coach Andrew Osborne told SUNsports in a Zoom interview on Tuesday that the team had reviewed its mistakes from the opening match against France and was determined to reduce its penalty count.

"Some of the issues were obvious and we reviewed them with the players," Osborne said.

"We addressed them during training, so everyone understood what needed to improve going into this game.

"The energy was there, but some players channelled it in the wrong areas. We're now focused on using that energy in a positive way."

Osborne said Fiji expected a fast-paced contest against Australia.

"They play with a high tempo and we are prepared to match that intensity. Australia will play fast. Our goal is to match that speed. They have a strong kicking game and use layered attacking plays, so we've worked on reading their attack and improving our defence," he said.

Fiji conceded 23 penalties and received three yellow cards in its opening match against France.

Osborne said the side had no choice but to improve its discipline.

"It's never good to concede that many penalties against one of the top teams. Our focus this week was on improving our discipline and being more accurate in our execution," he said.

"If we reduce our penalties, keep possession and stay disciplined, we'll be able to play the brand of rugby we're capable of."
