The 21-year-old manager is calling for sponsorship support after his Village Boys Youth team booked a semifinals spot at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens.
They won, 17–12, in their quarterfinal match against Axellerate Dominion Brothers at Lawaqa Park yesterday.
“Our biggest challenge right now is that we do not have a sponsor,” Logaya said.
He said some players travel from neighbouring villages to attend training sessions, which adds financial strain to the team.
“Sometimes the boys travel from other villages just to train, and that is another challenge for us,” he said.
Logaya said the players often have to find ways to raise their own funds, particularly when competing in major tournaments.
“The boys are always looking for ways to get money so we can support ourselves, especially during tournaments like this,” he said.
Village Boys scored three tries through Pio Rogica, Iowane Waseroma and Josaia Wasalala during the quarterfinal; Waseroma also slotted a conversion.
Logaya said the team is now focused on tomorrows semifinals and remains confident heading into the crucial match.
“We are looking forward to the semifinal and we are ready,” he said.
He also wished the remaining teams well.
