A single mother who graduated from the Naleba Youth Training Centre on Thursday has credited her younger brother for making her achievement possible.
Zareena Thomas Colati, 22, received her National Certificate in Agriculture Crop Production Level Four and the Best Theory Special Award during the graduation ceremony at the Ramada Encore Hotel in Labasa.
She said her brother, Tarogi Colati, played a crucial role by babysitting her 17-month-old son while she attended classes for eight months.

“It wasn’t easy for me, but when I saw my son, I felt motivated to complete my studies.
“I thank especially, my younger brother, Tarogi Colati for babysitting my child so I could attend classes for eight months,” she said.
After completing Year 12 at Naleba College, Ms Colati married, but her husband left for overseas under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme and never returned.
Despite the setback, her parents and the centre’s staff encouraged her to pursue the course because she dreams of becoming a marine scientist.
The eldest of four siblings from Vunuku Village, Moala, Lau, Ms Colati said her parents gave her strength to continue her education so she could provide for her son.
“My parents gave me a reason to continue my life and advised me to study so that I can provide for my son when he grows up.”
Her advice to other single mothers: “Never give up and always project your best version for your children because they are our future.”
