Miss Vision Marketing PTE LTD contestant Sinamoni Boitalei is calling on Fijians to embrace unity, compassion and respect as she vies for the crown.

One of five contestants in this year's pageant, Ms Boitalei said Fiji's cultural diversity should be celebrated as a source of strength.

The week-long carnival is underway at Garvey Park in Tavua, with the crowning scheduled for Saturday night.

"Fiji may be a small country, but it is rich in culture, traditions and diversity. We speak different languages, come from different backgrounds and practise different customs, but above all, we are one people — we are Fijians," she said.

Ms Boitalei said peace begins with unity and supporting others through difficult times.

"When someone is facing a difficult time, whether after a cyclone, during a family crisis or through challenges in the community, we should stand beside them instead of turning away. By supporting one another, we become stronger as a nation."

She said diversity was one of Fiji's greatest strengths.

"We can learn from each other through our food, music, dance, languages and traditions. Rather than judging people because they are different, we should celebrate our differences with respect, understanding and kindness," she said.

Ms Boitalei encouraged young people to help build a more peaceful society through everyday acts of kindness and respect.

"As young people, we all have a role in building a peaceful future. We can promote peace by showing respect at school, online and in our communities. Simple acts of kindness, including others and choosing words that uplift rather than divide, can make a lasting difference."

She said peace was built through understanding, compassion and unity.

"Together, we can build a stronger, more united Fiji where everyone feels valued, respected and proud to call this nation home."
