One of the top priorities for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services this year will be fixing the CT scan machine at Labasa Hospital.

Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa gave the assurance during a visit to the Northern Division today.

The divisional hospital has been unable to offer CT scan services for the past two years because of delays in upgrading the machine’s electrical system.

“This is a critical service for the North and we’re committed to getting it back up and running as soon as possible,” Mr Ravunawa said.

Patients in Vanua Levu needing CT scans currently have to travel to Suva or Lautoka.

Mr Ravunawa said restoring the service would greatly improve diagnostic capacity and help reduce patient transfer costs and delays.
