CWM nurses on 12-hour shifts receive support measures

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services says support measures have been put in place for nurses at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital working extended 12-hour shifts during a demanding period for the country’s largest hospital.
In a statement, Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa acknowledged the efforts of nurses currently working from 8am to 8pm.
“The Ministry of Health and Medical Services sincerely thanks all registered nurses at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital who are currently undertaking the 12-hour shift arrangements from 8am to 8pm during this demanding period,” he said.

To support staff, Mr Ravunawa said transport arrangements had been organised for night shift pickups and day shift drop-offs.
Additional welfare measures include designated rest areas, meals, and staff amenities such as urns, kettles and microwaves.
Mr Ravunawa acknowledged nurses for their commitment under difficult circumstances.
“I commend our nurses for their willingness, perseverance, sacrifice, and continued commitment to patient care under challenging circumstances,” he said.
He also acknowledged the support of senior nursing managers, the Fiji Nursing Association, drivers, administrators and support staff helping maintain the arrangements.
“The Ministry remains deeply appreciative of the dedication and resilience shown by our nursing teams during this trying time,” Mr Ravunawa said.
