The Acting Subdivisional Medical Officer for Lomaloma Sub Divisional Hospital, is hopeful that a newly installed solar power system will help reduce the dependency of oxygen cylinders for late night patients.

Dr. Krishan Prasad, said the new solar system will be a great help to the doctors, nurses and patients presenting to the facility at night during emergencies.

“It will reduce dependency on oxygen cylinders as we can utilise oxygen concentrator machines to give nebs and oxygen to patients in need.

“This will help reduce the carbon emissions from the diesel generator.”

Previously, the Lomaloma Sub Divisional Hospital in Vanuabalavu would often face power blackouts and faulty generators.

The installation of the solar power system was funded under the Manaaki grant by New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) through the Fiji Oxygen Programme.
