For Rakiraki lass, Shimona Nandini Jeet, this was also a present to her parents from the rural farming community in Tova in Rakiraki.
Shimona’s father Mahend Chand was the happiest of the bunch. For him, a child of his had now been able to escape the struggles of farming and was able to secure a brighter future for herself.
“I farm cane. I have 15 acres, it is quite small and the yield does not provide me with enough to have a living I want to give my children,” he said.
“I have been trying to get my children out of farming. I am happy for Shimona, I know that she will make her family proud.
“The life of a police officer is tough but we are there to support our Shimona.”
Also part of the passing out were three cousins, Ilisapeci Tobeyaweni, Miliame Qasi and Alena Caginitoba.
