Disabled Father Remains Proactive Despite Crisis

A 66-year-old disabled father has not given up in finding means of staying active during this COVID-19 pandemic.
With the COVID-19 restrictions in place, Vijay Kumar has not stopped working as he actively engages in making pot plant stands.
Regardless of being a doctor’s father, Mr Kumar said he had never thought of resting and using his time unwisely.

Mr Kumar said his wife and three children have always told him to relax.
However, he said he had been accustomed to the habit of keeping active since childhood.
After his early retirement from Telecom Fiji Limited 16 years ago due to a medical condition, Mr Kumar said he was committed to engaging in physical activities.
In 2018, Mr Kumar started with his new hobby of making pot plant stands after suffering a leg injury which forced him to stay indoors.
He made pot plant stands for his own house and the extra were sold to those who were interested.
“Staying idle and relaxing was not a common practice, I was brought up in a family of hardworking individuals,” he said.
Mr Kumar said the interest to do something innovative had always inspired him to stay productive and proactive in life.
“I buy the steel rods from Vinod Patel and forge and bend the steel to the required design in my workshop,” he said.
Mr Kumar said it was a profitable side business for people interested.
He said with the current COVID-19 restrictions in place around the country, this was the best way to engage in worthwhile activities.
