Former Fijian residents, who now reside in Australia, are in the country to give back to the community.

A 21-member group are in the country and led by Rotary Club of Brisbane International District Governor Jitendra Prasad who was born in Labasa.

He said the group included a 10 –member interplast medical team who were at the Labasa Hospital.

“The Interplast team, is a group of doctors providing specialist medical services to Labasa Hospital, funded by my Rotary district,” he said.

“Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.”

Mr Prasad, was inducted as a Rotarian in 1987 in Labasa.

“It is truly humbling for a person from a humble little town of Labasa now flying the flag of Fiji in Australia,” he said.

“It has been an inspiring journey, arriving in Brisbane not knowing more than 10 people in 1992, and today, humbled with the operation of two accounting firms employing 12 workers and a Subway outlet employing 10 staff.”

The team were hosted by the Rotary Club of Nadi at the Sentai Seafood Restaurant in Nadi on Thursday night.

Rotary Club of Nadi president Rupesh Patel said, it was a good opportunity to meet up with their counterparts and to revive their mission for this year.

“This meeting was a fruitful one and it will urge members to revive the club and take on projects to assist the community of Nadi once again,” he said.

The Rotary Club of Nadi was established in 1969.
