Hard work pays off as Bua student claims nursing dux
Ana Loki overcame doubts about nursing to earn multiple excellence awards and the overall dux medal.

Although nursing was not her first choice, Ana Loki, from Tavulomo in Dama, Bua, was awarded the Dux of her Bachelor of Nursing Science.
Ms Loki graduated from the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during a ceremony at the Civic Centre in Labasa today.
She began her degree in 2021 and, despite initial hesitation about the field, excelled academically.

“I was surprised and overwhelmed when my name was announced,” Ms Loki said.
“During my first year, I saw senior nurses winning awards, which motivated me to aim high.”
Her hard work paid off as she received three departmental awards: Academic Excellence in Nursing Knowledge and Mental Health; Academic Excellence in Population Health; and Overall Academic Excellence.
She also earned a gold medal for being the Dux of the Bachelor of Nursing Science.
“The continuous back-to-back assessments were challenging, but I managed to complete all my assignments. I now hope to pass our registration exams next week,” she said.
She is looking forward to her internship next year in one of Fiji’s hospitals.
“Nursing was not my first choice. I wanted to study public health or pharmacy,” she said. “My mother encouraged me to join nursing, and I am grateful for her guidance.”
Her achievement has made her parents immensely proud. Their support and encouragement kept Ms Loki focused and determined throughout her studies.
