“I chose nursing because I have always been drawn to caring for people in a meaningful way,” Ms Kant said.
“Nursing felt like the perfect path because it allows me to support individuals and families at their most vulnerable moments.”
She said receiving the gold medal was a blessing and not just a personal achievement.
“It reflects the sacrifices, the long nights of studying, the challenges, and the prayers that carried me through this journey. I feel honoured, grateful, and proud.”
Ms Kant is from Batiri in the province of Nadroga-Navosa and has maternal links to Tunalia, Nadi.
She dedicated her awards to her family, friends, lecturers, and fiancé, saying their sacrifices, prayers, and encouragement helped her through the hardest days.
“They believed in me even when I doubted myself. My parents have always supported and guided me throughout this journey.”
Her biggest inspiration is her mother, Roshni Devi, a professional chef.
“Her strength, empathy, and resilience showed me what it means to care for others wholeheartedly.”
Ms Kant said balancing academic workload, clinical placements, and personal responsibilities was difficult.
“There were moments of stress, financial strain, and self-doubt, but I pushed through with faith, support, and a strong commitment to my goals.”
Her advice to students: “Believe in your dream even when it feels distant. Work hard, stay focused, and trust the process. Challenges don’t mean you’re failing; they mean you’re growing. And if I can achieve this, so can you.”
She also acknowledged her maternal family, saying their values of humility, hard work, and resilience shaped who she is today.
Her mother, Rohini Devi, said: “I am beyond proud of Shania. She worked so hard, stayed focused, and never gave up. This achievement is a blessing, and she truly deserves it.”
Her father, Sanjay Kant, a farmer, added: “She has made our whole family proud. Her dedication and commitment have brought her this far, and I know she will continue to shine in her nursing career.”
