The continued dumping of rubbish on roadsides shows that people lack civic pride.
This is the comment by Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra, who said it was an ongoing concern.
“We have our teams conducting clean-up activities and awareness programmes, but it is the people who seem to lack civic pride,” he said.

Mr Nakauvadra said last Thursdays and Fridays the team cleaned up rubbish on the roadsides and filed a report with the council.
When piles of rubbish on side of the road are reported and spotted then the council clears it on their normal rubbish collection programme, he said.
“It will be good if people can make an effort to collaborate with the council to keep and maintain the city clean,” Mr Nakauvadra.
“We all want Lautoka City to be clean, so it will be good if everyone can join hands and have civic pride.”
