A 29-year-old man who experienced a tough childhood and eventually fell on the wrong side of the law is changing his life for the better.
Laisiasa Toalevu can be found at the corner of Kshatriya Hall in Lautoka in his modest barber kiosk called Western Barber Shop.
It’s a big leap from the life that Mr Toalevu once lived.

He was only 11 years old when he became involved criminal activities.
And without the care and love of parents, he was a frequent resident at the Remand Centre at Natabua Correctional facility.
Now a 29-year-old, he said his mother died when he was two years old and his father left him in the care of relatives when he reached 11.
It was only two weeks ago that he decided to make the 180-degree turn.
“This business is good, it’s going to help me stay away from the activities I was involved in,” he said.
“I have had eight customers so far since I opened and made about $34,” he added.
“The money is enough for me, but with my little corner I just need a small fan for my customers.”
Mr Toalevu said there was still time for people to change.
