Marovia Sacrifices Time With Loved Ones To Fulfil Police Duty

Nadarivatu Community Post Officer Corporal Jese Marovia said being away from family was not uncommon throughout his 16 years in the Fiji Police Force.

The father of two was recently transferred from the Vatukoula Community Post to Nadarivatu where he currently oversees a team of five Police officers who look after a total of 14 villages and 22 small settlements in the area.

“I have two children, one is 16 years old and one is 14, and they go to Tavua College. My family stays in Vatukoula and I’m here because if you pay a carrier to come up to Nadarivatu, you have to pay $50, but sometimes I go down to Vatukoula,” he said.

Mr Marovia also spent Father’s Day away from his family on Sunday, however, this was just one of the many sacrifices he has had to make due to the nature of his work.

“Compared to the other stations where I was based, I had Father’s Day with my family, only now when I’m in Nadarivatu, I had to spend Father’s Day away from them because of the distance, but it’s normal for me because I’ve dedicated my life to work in the Police force,” he said.

He said he hails from Burelevu, Saivou, Ra, and has maternal links to Vanuakula, Nalawa, Ra, therefore, trekking in the highlands was always familiar to him.

“Here, the one challenge is the cold weather and the distance we have to travel every day to visit villages; sometimes we have to go by foot and the road conditions are not that good,” he said

He urged members of the public who are working away from their families to focus on fulfilling their duties rather than the distance that separated them from their loved ones.

“Work together in carrying out the duty that has been given to you, there will be a time when you can spend be with your family, but the important thing is to fulfil your duty,” he said.
