Mother Saves Rent Income To Start Business
The medically challenged widow invested about $1500 to start her business two months ago at her home in Siberia Road in Labasa.

A 40-year-old woman who recently opened her grocery shop business is encouraging Fijians to explore other ways to diversify income.
The medically challenged widow invested about $1500 to start her business two months ago at her home in Siberia Road in Labasa.
Vikashni Devi partitioned her house to make two separate apartments and rented it out.

She saved up her rent income and used the money to start her business.
“I cannot stay idle because I don’t have a stable income like others. I need ways to diversify my income so that I could be able to sustain my family’s livelihood during this hard-hit pandemic,” Ms Devi said.
She said after her husband’s death in 2017, she became financially and medically unstable.
She said her only child, Ashwini Chand, has been supporting her.
Ms Devi’s right leg was amputated in 2019 due to her diabetic condition. She now walks on prosthetic leg.
She reiterated that her daughter inspired her to start this business and save the money earned from the two flats.
“So far, business has been good and I hope that it continues to do so in the future,” she said.
Ms Devi encouraged people who were struggling to meet their family needs to engage in innovative ideas and explore ways to diversify their income.
